CONSENT of the GOVERNED PROJECT

to change the county charter  and restore sovereignty to every citizen.

Recent quotes from three of our own county council members on their positions as elected officials are revealing as to how they view their proper roles :

“it sometimes takes a law to change people's behavior”

"Sometimes I have to be forced to do things that are right and I don't want to.”

(I need) “to take charge, to lead our County, to define policy in the best interests of the people of our island. “

Frightening, isn't it !

Our county government lately has taken on 3 roles:

  • Administrative (such as determining how many police to hire, or where a road should go, or how to process garbage). This is an appropriate level of authority and responsibility for them to play.
  • Telling us what things we CAN NOT do i.e.:restricting our rights, more so every year
  • Taking our money: i.e.: taxes and fees

We the people have delegated out elected officials the power to be administrators, but we have NOT delegated them the power to restrict our lives and take our money without our permission.

The Consent of the Governed acts will restore forever this authority and sovereignty to the people of the Big Island.

racial arsonists in hilo

This cartoon is what is presented today 7/16/2013 as responsible journalistic graphic insight and commentary by out local newspaper the Hawaii Tribune-Herald.

Is this what we as a community feel represents the appropriate level of community media, reflecting our values and informing the public?

In Feb 2012, this paper applauded with their cartoons the dumping of the Rush Limbaugh radio show locally.  Rush Limbaugh slurred 29 year old law student Sandra Fluke after she testified before Congressional Democrats in favor of their national health care policy compelling her (Catholic, Jesuit) Georgetown University health plan to cover birth control for her extra-marital sex, against their religious beliefs.

"[Fluke] essentially says that she must be paid to have sex—what does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."

This was considered by the station as unacceptable behavior in this community as "egregious," and that "decency and responsibility" dictated the show's cancellation.

But somehow, this cartoon above is considered both appropriate and insightful by the Hawaii Tribune-Herald's editorial and policy directors.

Published reports state that the FBI has investigated the issue of any racial bias by Zimmerman, and concluded he had none (and according to one juror, the jury as a whole).
This  action goes way beyond being irresponsible.
This is an outrage.

This is unacceptable racial arson, deliberately and irresponsibly inflammatory, and their actions should be retracted with apologies to us all, resignations of the the responsible persons, and mandatory sensitivity training and re-education of their staff to an appropriate level of  journalistic responsibilities to the community.

"Decency and responsibility" require these actions from the paper.
See contact info below to voice your outrage.
